Helping a child heal involves helping them be themselves. One of the best ways to foster this type of environment is to cultivate safety. The therapist knowing the playroom is safe is not enough; the child must know it, too. This course explores what a neuroception of safety is and how to create it within the child and yourself.

Neuroception of Safety in the Playroom: What It Is & How to Create It Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the different branches of the nervous system and their relationship with cultivating safety in the playroom
  • Describe the importance of being “one foot in” and “one foot out” as a way to stay regulated in sessions
  • Describe what a neuroception of safety is and the role of the therapist in helping create it in the playroom

CE Credit Hours: 1 CE Credit Hour, NBCC Content Area: Counseling Theory/Practice and the Counseling Relationship & Wellness and Prevention
