This one-hour training emphasizes the foundational concept that play is a child’s natural form of communication and a powerful therapeutic tool. In today’s digital era, much play has shifted to digital platforms, where children engage, connect, and communicate in new and evolving ways. To effectively support children in this space, play therapists must develop insight and awareness of digital play and learn how to communicate within these digital environments.

Participants will begin with a brief reflection on their own perspectives regarding digital native culture, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of how the digital era influences children’s engagement and self-expression. The session will offer practical guidance on understanding and connecting with children and adolescents in their digital environments, equipping play therapists to meet clients where they are and foster meaningful therapeutic relationships. Participants will also delve into the concept of digital identity and its crucial role in the lives of young clients. The digital realm is not merely a source of entertainment; it is an influential space where children and adolescents form identities, build relationships, and navigate their world. This training will help play therapists appreciate the significance of these spaces and provide strategies to seamlessly incorporate digital tools into their play therapy practice. By doing so, play therapists can enhance the therapeutic alliance, promote deeper connections, and achieve meaningful outcomes in their work with digital natives.
