CLASS CONTENT

In addition to the in-course requirements, below, students are also required to complete a course related to the topics of Legal and/or Ethical Issues in Supervision and present the Institute with a certificate, or another means of proof of completion, by the end of the course in order to meet full requirements.

Becoming A Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor – General Theory – Two live webinars plus video study

In the first webinar, supervisors-in-training will begin to explore the supervisory relationship through the Synergetic Play Therapy® lens. Students will take the SPT principles and learn how to apply them to supervision while deepening our understanding of the skill we can help develop in our supervisees.

In the second webinar on this topic, we will come together as a group with Lisa for a one-hour webinar to signify the closing of the course. This webinar is designed for integration and will include a celebration of the completion of the course and your designation as a Certified Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor.

Independent Study – Application of Synergetic Play Therapy® Principles through a Supervisory Lens

This part of the course is designed to facilitate understanding of the finer details of Synergetic Play Therapy® application so that you can support your supervisees through their client cases. In this independent study course, participants will be required to:

  • Homework assignment: Collapsing your Fears of Being a Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor
  • Watch and analyze 30 min. from four of your own recorded supervision sessions
  • Meet with Khris for one hour to review two 15 min. segments from your own recorded sessions and complete Supervisor Skill Sheet Evaluation (this will occur in January)
  • Submit a 2 page paper describing your understanding of each of the Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor Tenets
  • Read Lisa’s book, Aggression in Play Therapy: A Neurobiological Approach for Integrating Intensity, and complete the Book Review. This is specific to those who completed the SPT Certification program prior to 2019.

How to Supervise an Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisee – 6 hours of video watching/1 hour a month 

Through the watching of recorded session videos, supervisors-in-training will explore common supervision issues. You will learn techniques and skills focused on helping you navigate the supervisory relationship and challenges that arise in the playroom. These videos include guidance and commentary by Lisa. You will watch one each month on your own. There will not be a video released in January.

Clinical Issues in Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervision with Kristine Rolfe 

We will be meeting via monthly webinar as a group (with the exception of January, you will meet individually during this month). These groups are designed to support each other on your journey with your supervises and to help integrate and deepen what you are learning in the course. We will also analyze various clinical issues or challenges that arise in the work with your supervises and look at ways to support their growth and learning.

*In order to keep the experience individualized and allow for processing time, we are adding on an additional Clinical Issues Group time and the class will be divided in half to allow for two smaller groups: Group 1 and Group 2. Group 1 will meet on Mondays from 12pm-1:30pm MT; Group 2 will meet on the same day but from 5pm-6:30pm MT. Khristine Rolfe will be contacting you soon to discuss Group assignments!

Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervision Through a Cultural Lens 

You will have two opportunities to visit this important topic with the Synergetic Play Therapy Institute’s Cultural Ambassador and SPT Consultant, Liliana Baylon, throughout the course. First in March 2024, with a pre-recorded video course and again in April 2024, in a live webinar format to continue the conversation and explore the many ways culture and bias exist in the playroom.

Becoming a Certified Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor Course Assignment Checklist

Please note: Completion of a course related to the topics of Legal and/or Ethical Issues in Play Therapy Supervision is not a prerequisite for this course, however, it must be completed before you can meet certification requirements. You will be asked to provide documentation of completion of such a course in the form of a CE Certificate or alternative proof of completion. You will also need to have two supervisees during six months of the course that are willing to be videotaped.
