Rates of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in young children have risen in the last 5 years, and more play therapists than ever are faced with these issues in the playroom. Clinicians often feel lost due to the lack of education on this topic, uncertainty about their capability to support children who experience suicidal ideation, and overwhelmed and drained by the intensity of being in the room with young children who express wanting to die.
If that sounds familiar, please join Heather FD of Playful Integration for Suicidal Ideation & Self-Compassion in Play Therapy. You’ll learn about how to recognize suicidal ideation in play therapy sessions, how to manage SI with children and parents, and the healing power of embodied self-compassion in the playroom. You’ll get a framework for understanding what’s going on in the playroom when SI shows up, and the confidence to work with suicidal children as a play therapist. You are not alone in your work – we are all in this together.
