Are you ready to become a Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor?

For Certified Synergetic Play Therapists who meet the prerequisites we offer a path to becoming a Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor*. These courses also count towards Registered Play Therapy Supervisor requirements (please check with APT to determine full requirements). In this training, students will learn how to apply the Synergetic Play Therapy® philosophy and tenets to the supervisory relationship. Through video observation, didactic learning, group discussion, and self study (this course is heavy on independent study), students will learn how to step into the role of play therapy supervisor – one of the most important and influential roles in a play therapist’s journey.

Course Prerequisites:

• At least two years post SPT Certification, holding a clinical caseload during that time with a focus on the application of Synergetic Play Therapy® principles
• Demonstrate at least a year’s worth of post-certification supervision/consultation with a Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor within 2 years of starting this course
• Hold current LPC or LCSW Mental Health license or equivalent licensure/ability to offer supervision in your state or country
• Hold “current” status of the Certified Synergetic Play Therapist™ credential
• At least one year of purchase and participation in the SPT Community Membership within 2 years of starting this course

Please note: Completion of a Legal and Ethical Issues in Play Therapy Supervision course is not a prerequisite for this course, however, it must be completed before you can obtain the designation Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor. You will be asked to provide documentation of completion of a Legal and Ethical issues in Play Therapy supervision course. You will also need to have two supervisees during the six months of the course and that are willing to be video-taped.

*Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor is a protected title held by those who have taken and completed all requirements of this training.

Description

In this nine-month experiential course, through video observation, didactic learning, group discussion and independent study, you’ll learn how to step into one of the most impactful and influential roles in a play therapist’s journey, Becoming a Supervisor (and a Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor at that!). You’ll explore the supervisory relationship through the Synergetic Play Therapy® lens, apply Synergetic Play Therapy® principles to supervision so you can help develop these principles in your supervisees, and learn techniques and skills focused on helping you navigate the supervisory relationship and challenges that arise in the playroom.

Becoming a Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor (4 Non-Contact Credits, suggested APT Category Clinical Supervision Theory)

  • Learn the Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor Tenets
  • Discuss the Synergetic Play Therapy® Skills Sets and the need to start with the basic skill sets
  • Explain Synergetic Play Therapy®‘s concept of “The Set Up/The Offering” in the play therapy Supervisory relationship

Independent Study: Application of Synergetic Play Therapy® Principles through a Supervisory Lens (4 Non-Contact Credits, suggested APT Category Supervisee Competencies)

  • Write your strengths and areas of growth as a play therapy Supervisor through self video observation and self analysis
  • Analyze the Tenets of Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervision through written analysis

How to Supervise a Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisee (6 Non-Contact Credits, suggested APT Category Supervisee Competencies)

  • Apply the use of video in the Synergetic Play Therapy® supervision process
  • Critique various play therapists’ struggles in the play therapy process presented through video observation and ways to support their growth
  • Discuss the importance of identifying one key skill that play therapy supervisees can be working on and the importance of communicating in the play therapy supervisees’ goals and values.

Clinical Issues in Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervision Course – Groups (10 Non-contact Credits, suggested APT Category Clinical Issues)

  • Analyze various clinical issues that arise and ways to support the play therapy supervisee’s growth and learning
  • Discuss the importance of making sure play therapy supervisees are working on basic play therapy skills first
  • Learn various ways to understand where the play therapy supervisee is at in their therapeutic development and the importance of working with them where they are at in their stage development

Running A Group Supervision – Live Webinar with Lisa (1 Non-contact Credit, suggested APT Category Clinical Supervision Theory) 

  • Apply Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor Theory to group supervision
  • Discuss ways to support a play therapy supervision group when challenging group dynamics arise
  • Explore how to become a play therapy supervision group’s external regulator

Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervision Through a Cultural Lens (3 Non-contact Credit, suggested APT Category Clinical Issues)

  • Explain the role of the Synergetic Play Therapy® Supervisor Through a Cultural Lens
  • Differentiate between Cultural humility vs Cultural Opportunity in play therapy
  • Develop an increased awareness of how cultural diversity impacts Synergetic Play Therapy supervision/consultations.

Credits: 28 Non-Contact CE Credits.

Play therapy credit may be awarded to graduate students enrolled in a graduate mental health program or individuals who hold a graduate mental health degree.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received before 4-weeks from the start date will receive a full refund minus a $150.00 USD administrative/processing fee. *Khristine Rolfe, LCMHC, RPT-S, is a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist Consultant with over 25 years of therapeutic and educational experience in a variety of settings. She is honored to guide others in their professional and personal journeys and seeks to provide a supervisory experience that facilitates one’s intuitive wisdom, strength and authenticity.

*Liliana Baylon, LMFT, RPT, SPT-S, EMDRIA CIT, is a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist Consultant, EMDR Certified, EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training, and AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Liliana is a bilingual and bicultural therapist, and serves as SPTI’s Cultural Ambassador.  Liliana is the owner of Healing Relationships Counseling Services, PLLC, in Colorado, where she provides therapy and supervision.

*Lisa Dion, LPC, RPT-S, is an international teacher, creator of Synergetic Play Therapy, founder and President of the Synergetic Play Therapy Institute, co-founder of the Synergetic Education Institute, creator of the Business of Therapy and host of the Lessons from the Playroom podcast.  She is the author of Aggression in Play Therapy:  A Neurobiological Approach for Integrating Intensity and is the 2015 recipient of the Association for Play Therapy’s Professional Education and Training Award of Excellence.
